so, i finished getting the Volpe rideable as of yesterday… or maybe the day before, time is irrelevant π anyhow, i got the SRAM X9 long cage rear derailleur on there with connected to the cranks by a KMC DX10SC 10spd chain. i ran into some issues with the top rear of the derailleurs cage…
just some snaps of the Bianchi Volpe with some Velo Orange (VO) 45mm Stainless fenders, finally starting to look like a tourer π i have to say how enthused i am by the VO fenders, i’ve purchased them before and they’ve never ceased to impress me. the kit that comes with them has pretty much…
just a quick snap of the Gunnar from the other day, hated the light so didn’t bother with any more, hope to have some more this week. love my Campy equipped Gunnar Sport, but more about that in the next post on it π -peter
so, title aside π haha the Bianchi Volpe got some new leather goodies from a guy in Portland, OR named Geoff who runs WalnutStudiolo, you can find them here on Etsy. what i got was a modified version of their “Bike Portage Strap”, i had it made longer on the top tube, and i also…
as you all may know i have a ’38 Schwinn straight bar that i am starting to modify and make into my town bike. so far the conversion has been very slow going, as i always seem to have another project that manages to creep in front of the poor old Schwinn. but now as…
snapped a couple of shots of lily while she was actually having a mellow moment, and then luke tried to eat her π -peter
got bored today and had a little spare time, ended up setting up brake cables and housing, damn, it’s a monster!!! definitely going to be able to do some stoppies!!! haha not sure if that’s such a good thing π -peter
[vimeo]http://www.vimeo.com/25252933[/vimeo] so just a video of the Volpe’s rear wheel spinning around showing it’s trueness and roundness, makes me happy π -peter
so now that the Bianchi Volpe is standing on it’s own two wheels, that i just fished assembling yesterday (105 5700 Shimano hubs, Sapim 14/15/15 and 14g spokes, Mavic A719 rims on Velox tape with Vittoria Randonneur 700x35c tires), and it has the brakes mostly put together i figured i’d get some quick snaps of…
just a quick snap of the 70mm 10° Thomson X2 road stem for the Bianchi Volpe. those are not the spacers that are going to used for the final build. i haven’t figured out the steerer height yet (no saddle, wheels, etc.) so i haven’t bought the spacers yet, these were just hanging out in…
so i drove up to Seattle today to get the Bianchi Volpe back from R+E Cycles in the U-District, as they finished one to two weeks early! wow, what a difference getting rid of those cable guides made! looks so much sleeker and more modern, i’m swooning π anyhow, lots of stuff to do…. in…
small update… the frame is now in the care of R+E Cycles up in Seattle, should be about two to three weeks before i see it again.. getting the dent filled and the new cable stops brazed-on (replacing the top cable guides). can’t wait! in the meantime i’ll just have to comfort myself by purchasing…
so… yeah… got another bike, haha. this time it’s a lugged late 80’s Bianchi Volpe CX/Touring bike that will be turned into my full-out tourer. as far a kit, this is what i’m thinking… (components back to front) SRAM Rival Medium rear derailleur Shimano 105 BlackΓΒ 5703 Triple front Derailleur crankset is undetermined yet, preferably a…
so after a lot of thought on the Univega it was decided that i simply had to do something with the frameset, as i got it for far too cheap just to sell it. but what to do with it? well… since the original plan was to build a bike that could do more than…
(a photoshop job using one 650b wheel, sorry joseph π ) so i’ve been bouncing from idea to idea about what i want to do with my ’38 Schwinn Straightbar 26″ guys bike, and i think i’ve finally settled on one. it’s going to end up something fairly close to what it originally was, an…
so after i had the Univega almost all ready to be powdercoated what should come along? an older lugged Bianchi thats what! it seems to be of the 80’s vintage, made in Italy, Columbus steel, pretty lugs, and that handmade quality that put Bianchi on the map. all the parts are coming together slowly as…
got the frame for 37 dollars and that set the mood for the build; build it cheap, but build it well. more to come, but it’s going to be running campy gear with home built wheels on campy hubs π -peter
so this is Lily my newish American Bulldog puppy that i got on my way back up from california (moving the last of my stuff from Redlands, CA) from Boyd’s American Bulldogs, she’s only about 9-10 weeks old, and still a terror π just some photo’s over the last few days of warm weather and…
Jensen Beeler over at Asphalt & Rubber had me tag along for a shoot down in Portland at Motoczysz’ headquarters, focusing on the hot swap battery packs and original frame. look for more info over at Asphalt & Rubber awesome stuff, i have to tell you π -peter
